What Is Desiccant Nonwoven Fabric?
Desiccant pouches work by letting moisture from the surrounding air pass through the fabric wall and reach the desiccant inside — whether silica gel, clay, molecular sieve, or activated carbon. The fabric is not a filter. It is a moisture-permeable barrier that keeps the desiccant contained while water vapour moves freely.
The most important performance parameter is MVTR — moisture vapour transmission rate. A high MVTR means more moisture passes through per unit time. This directly affects how fast the desiccant absorbs. A poorly chosen fabric slows the desiccant down and reduces its effective life.
The second critical requirement is heat seal strength. Pouches are sealed on bar seal, ultrasonic, or impulse machines. The fabric must seal cleanly at operating temperature without delaminating or leaking particles after sealing.

40-50 GSM
Standard spec for most silica gel pouch machines. Best balance of MVTR, containment, and seal strength.
40-50 GSM
Coarser particles — same spec as silica gel works well. Good containment without extra GSM needed.
50-60 GSM
Finer particles need a denser fabric to prevent dust leakage. SMS composite also available.
50-60 GSM
Black particle containment is critical. Heavier GSM prevents black dust migration through the fabric wall.
