What Is Heat Sealable Nonwoven Fabric?

Heat sealable nonwoven fabric is a nonwoven material that can be bonded to itself or another layer using heat and pressure alone, without any adhesive. The sealing happens when the outer surface of the fabric melts slightly and fuses with the adjacent layer, forming an airtight, strong bond.

The most widely used heat sealable nonwoven is PE/PP bicomponent spunbond. The PE sheath melts at ~130C while the PP core stays solid at ~160C. This 30C gap creates a forgiving sealing window that works reliably across bar seal, ultrasonic, and impulse sealing machines.

This fabric is used wherever you need a fast, clean, adhesive-free seal in production. The primary applications are desiccant pouches, hygiene product covers, and filtration bags. See our full desiccant fabric range at silica gel packaging material.

Compatible with 3 Sealing Machine Types

Our heat sealable nonwoven works on every standard production sealing machine. No machine upgrades required.

⚡ Bar Seal Machine
Most common method

Heated metal bar presses directly onto the fabric at 130-150C. Simple, fast, and reliable. Used in most desiccant pouch production lines. Compatible with all standard bar widths.

🔊 Ultrasonic Seal Machine
Cleanest seal quality

High-frequency vibration generates friction heat at the fabric interface. PE sheath melts and bonds without external heat contact. Produces the cleanest seal with no burn risk. Ideal for food and pharma grade pouches.

⚡ Impulse Seal Machine
Best for thin films

Electric impulse heats a nichrome wire element briefly. Fabric cools under pressure to form a strong bond. Good temperature control makes it suitable for thinner GSM fabrics and precise sealing requirements.

Key Properties of Heat Sealable Nonwoven

🔥
Clean Adhesive-Free BondNo adhesives, no chemical binders. The PE sheath melts and fuses directly. This is critical for food, pharma, and medical applications where adhesive contamination is not acceptable.
📋
Consistent Seal Width and StrengthThe tight GSM tolerance across the roll ensures consistent seal width and peel strength in every production run. No variation means no rejects from weak seals.
🌊
High MVTR Maintained After SealingOnly the sealed area bonds. The open fabric area retains full breathability. For desiccant pouches, this means the fabric continues to allow moisture vapour through at rated capacity.
💪
No Distortion or ShrinkageThe PP core stays solid throughout the sealing process. The fabric does not shrink, warp, or deform around the seal zone. Pouch shape and dimensions stay exact.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should I set my bar seal machine?+
For PE/PP bico spunbond we typically recommend starting at 135C and adjusting based on your seal quality test. The effective range is 130C to 150C. Lower temperatures within this range are suitable for thinner GSM. We can advise on exact settings after you share your machine model and current GSM spec.
Will the fabric shrink or deform during sealing?+
No. The PP core melts at 160C which is well above the sealing temperature of 130-150C. The PP core stays completely solid during sealing and maintains the fabric structure. Only the PE sheath melts and forms the bond. There is no shrinkage or deformation of the sealed fabric.
Is this fabric suitable for food grade sealing?+
Yes. We supply food grade PE/PP bico spunbond from virgin polymer only. No recycled content, no restricted substances. Complies with FDA 21 CFR and EU 10/2011. Because sealing requires no adhesive, there is no risk of adhesive migration into food contact applications. Full compliance documentation available.
Can I use this on an ultrasonic sealing machine?+
Yes. PE/PP bico spunbond is fully compatible with ultrasonic sealing machines. The vibration-generated friction heat melts the PE sheath cleanly. Ultrasonic sealing actually produces a very clean bond with no external heat contact, which is ideal for food and pharmaceutical applications.
What is the minimum order quantity?+
We are MOQ-friendly and work with both trial orders and large production volumes. Contact us with your GSM, width, and volume requirements and we will confirm MOQ and pricing within 24 hours.
