SMS Non Woven Fabric for Desiccant Bags — Breathable Grade Supplier India

SMS non woven fabric for desiccant bags is a tri-layer spunbond-meltblown-spunbond substrate engineered for lint-free, heat-sealable desiccant pouches. Favourite Fab supplies breathable-grade SMS rolls (25–60 GSM, 100–320 cm wide) in bulk from Agra, India — MVTR up to 2,000 g/m²/24h, air permeability 150–600 mm/s. Request a free sample roll today.

What Is SMS Non Woven Fabric?

SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) non woven fabric is a three-layer composite produced inline. The outer spunbond layers deliver mechanical strength and dimensional stability. The middle meltblown layer — ultra-fine fibres averaging 1–5 µm — acts as a controlled-porosity barrier that blocks particulates while permitting moisture vapour transmission.

For desiccant bag manufacturing, SMS delivers structural integrity, lint-free surface performance, and controlled breathability simultaneously — a combination plain PP spunbond cannot match.

Why SMS for Desiccant Bags?

Three functional properties make SMS non woven fabric for desiccant bags the industry standard for silica gel, molecular sieve, and clay desiccant packaging:

  • Lint-free meltblown barrier: The middle layer traps loose fibres that would contaminate electronics assemblies or pharmaceutical blister packs — making SMS the preferred lint-free desiccant packaging material for sensitive production environments.
  • Controlled breathability: MVTR of 800–2,000 g/m²/24h (ASTM E96) and air permeability of 150–600 mm/s (ISO 9237) allow moisture vapour in while keeping dust out. Plain spunbond offers no meltblown permeability control.
  • Heat-sealable at practical temps: PP SMS seals at 130–160°C (bar seal) and 100–140°C (ultrasonic). As an air permeable non woven fabric for packaging, SMS balances sealing integrity with the moisture vapour throughput desiccants require.

Non woven fabric air permeability in mm/s is measured at 200 Pa differential pressure per ISO 9237. Specify your target range when requesting a sample — we tune the meltblown weight fraction accordingly.

SMS vs PP Spunbond for Desiccant Use

Plain PP spunbond is a common cost-reduction consideration. These four parameters determine suitability for desiccant bag production.

Parameter SMS (Tri-layer) PP Spunbond (Single-layer)
Structure / Layers Spunbond + Meltblown + Spunbond; barrier fibre diameter 1–5 µm Single spunbond web; fibre diameter 15–25 µm
Lint Generation Lint-free — meltblown layer locks loose fibres; safe for electronics and pharma Moderate lint risk — coarser fibres shed under mechanical stress
Breathability / MVTR Control Tunable: 150–600 mm/s air permeability; 800–2,000 g/m²/24h MVTR Uncontrolled — permeability varies with GSM; no meltblown regulation
Heat Seal & Barrier Seals at 130–160°C (bar) / 100–140°C (ultrasonic); particulate barrier intact post-seal Seals at similar temps but no particulate barrier — dust ingress possible

For bulk silica gel in outer cartons, PP spunbond may suffice. For lint-free or controlled-permeability requirements, SMS is the correct specification.

Who Uses SMS Desiccant Fabric?

  • Electronics & semiconductor packaging: SMT board manufacturers and IC packaging lines use SMS sachets inside moisture-barrier bags. Lint-free performance is critical — shed fibres cause solder bridging.
  • Pharmaceutical packaging: Tablet blister-pack and API storage operations use SMS desiccant pouches in secondary cartons. The meltblown barrier prevents fibre migration that triggers visible-particle QC failures.
  • Footwear & leather goods: OEM footwear manufacturers use silica gel units in shoe boxes. 35–45 GSM SMS is cost-effective at volume without sacrificing sealing performance.
  • Industrial & food packaging: Bearing exporters, oxygen absorber converters, and nutraceutical canister makers all specify SMS for consistent air permeability and clean heat seals at volume.

Why Source From Favourite Fab

  • Manufacturer, not trader: SMS nonwoven produced in-house at our Agra facility — competitive wholesale pricing direct from the line with no middleman margin.
  • Tunable specifications: MVTR and air permeability adjusted at the meltblown station. State your target range (e.g., 300 mm/s ±10%) and we validate before dispatch.
  • Full documentation: TDS, COA, and roll certification with every commercial order. Samples include a measurement report against your stated test standard.
  • Export-ready & slit-to-size: GST-registered, IEC-holding exporter with 12-month batch retention. Rolls slit from 5 cm to full 320 cm — one source covers your full pouch width range.

How to Order

Share your GSM, width, MVTR target, and seal method. Sample rolls dispatch within 5–7 working days (India) or 10–14 days (international). Commercial MOQ is 500 kg per GSM-width SKU; samples are available below MOQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

What GSM of SMS is best for silica gel sachets?

35–45 GSM SMS covers most silica gel sachet applications. At 35 GSM the fabric is light enough to minimise material cost while meeting MD tensile ≥25 N/5cm for high-speed fill-and-seal lines. Use 45–60 GSM for canister-format desiccants requiring higher burst resistance.

Does SMS fabric work on ultrasonic sealing machines?

Yes. PP-based SMS non woven fabric seals on ultrasonic machines at 100–140°C equivalent energy. The spunbond outer layers contain sufficient thermoplastic PP for a consistent weld without adhesives. Verify peel strength on a sample roll at the lower end of your machine’s PP amplitude range before full production.

Is SMS non woven lint-free enough for pharmaceutical desiccants?

Yes. The meltblown layer physically binds loose fibres within the web. Favourite Fab can supply Gelbo flex / Helmke drum lint data on request. For pharma blister-card desiccant inserts we recommend 40–50 GSM SMS with a confirmed fibre-shed report.

What is the air permeability of SMS non woven in mm/s?

Favourite Fab breathable-grade SMS measures 150–600 mm/s at 200 Pa per ISO 9237. Lower GSM grades (25–35 GSM) sit at 400–600 mm/s; heavier grades (50–60 GSM) fall to 150–250 mm/s. The measured value is confirmed on the sample COA.

Minimum order quantity for SMS desiccant rolls?

Standard MOQ is 500 kg per GSM-width SKU. Sample rolls (50–100 kg) are available below MOQ for qualification — email sale@favouritehub.com or WhatsApp +91 95288 11566. Lead time after sample approval is 15–20 working days ex-Agra.
