What Is Electrospinning Nanofibre Nonwoven

Electrospinning is a fibre-forming process that uses a high-voltage electrostatic field to draw polymer solution or melt into continuous nanoscale fibres. A syringe or spinneret delivers polymer solution. A voltage of 10–50 kV is applied between the nozzle and a grounded collector. The electrostatic force overcomes surface tension and stretches the polymer jet into fibres with diameters from 50 nm to 2,000 nm.

The resulting nanofibre web has fibre diameters 100–1,000 times finer than conventional meltblown fibres. This creates an extremely high surface-area-to-volume ratio, a small and controllable mean pore size, and outstanding particle capture efficiency at low basis weights.
