Frontal Tape Raw Material — BOPP, PP & Hook Film Supplier India 2026

Frontal tape — also called landing zone tape, frontal landing pad, or front panel tape — is the strip on the front of a baby or adult diaper that the side magic tape sticks to. It is the “loop” half of the hook-and-loop fastening system. The frontal tape is the second-largest visible feature on a diaper after the topsheet, and its quality directly determines re-fasten cycles, consumer perception, and lifetime sales.

This guide covers the raw material side of frontal tape — base films, loop fabrics, lamination structures, GSM specs, and supply from Favourite Fab.

Frontal Tape Construction

A modern frontal tape is a multi-layer laminate:

  1. Base film (BOPP or PE): Provides structure and print surface
  2. Loop fabric (PP nonwoven): Surface where hook tape engages
  3. Adhesive layer: Bonds film to nonwoven and to diaper backsheet
  4. Print layer (optional): Brand graphics, character art, indicator lines

Two main constructions:

  • BOPP-laminated: Glossy, premium feel, sharp print. Most common in branded diapers
  • PE-laminated: Softer, lower cost. Common in mid-tier diapers and baby pull-ups

Detailed: How diaper front tape is made — raw material to final product

Raw Material 1 — BOPP Base Film

BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) is the most common frontal tape base film. It is heat-stable, prints beautifully (up to 8 colours flexo), and laminates cleanly with adhesives.

  • Thickness: 15–25 micron
  • Surface: Glossy or matte (corona-treated for ink/adhesive bonding)
  • Width: Custom slit to frontal tape machine spec (typically 80–120 mm)
  • Cost: ₹160–220/kg

For colour-matched diaper graphics, BOPP is reverse-printed (printed on the inside surface, viewed through clear film) — gives sharp colours and protects the print from abrasion.

Raw Material 2 — PE Base Film

PE (polyethylene) film is softer, cheaper, and offers a more cloth-like feel — preferred by some Asian and African market buyers.

  • Thickness: 18–28 micron
  • Surface: Matte, soft
  • Print: Up to 4 colours flexo (less sharp than BOPP)
  • Cost: ₹130–180/kg

Raw Material 3 — PP Loop Nonwoven

The loop side of the frontal tape is made of PP spunbond or carded nonwoven engineered with high loop density on the surface. Hook tape engages with these loops to create the fastening grip.

  • GSM: 60–100
  • Loop density: 30–60 loops/cm²
  • Material: PP spunbond, carded thermal-bonded, or carded resin-bonded
  • Width: Custom slit to match BOPP base width
  • Cost: ₹150–200/kg

Raw Material 4 — Adhesive

Hot melt adhesive bonds:

  • Loop nonwoven to BOPP/PE base film (during tape lamination)
  • Finished frontal tape strip to diaper backsheet (during diaper assembly)

Standard SIS or SBS hot melt adhesive. Application rate 8–15 g/m². Cost: ₹220–360/kg.

Most diaper makers buy finished frontal tape strip rather than the components — converting BOPP + nonwoven into laminated tape requires specialised lamination machinery. Favourite Fab supplies finished tape ready to feed into diaper machines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hook and loop in diaper tape?

Hook is the side tape with tiny plastic hooks. Loop is the front tape with a soft nonwoven surface. The hooks engage in the loops, holding the diaper closed. Hook is small (3–5 cm strip), loop is wider (8–15 cm panel) to allow re-fastening adjustment.

BOPP or PE — which is better for frontal tape?

BOPP gives premium glossy print quality and sharper graphics — preferred for branded retail diapers. PE is softer, cheaper, and lower-key — preferred for institutional and value-tier diapers. Both work technically; the choice is brand-positioning driven.

What is the typical loop density target?

30–60 loops per cm² delivers reliable hook engagement. Below 30 loops/cm², peel strength drops and re-fasten cycles fail early. Above 60 loops/cm², cost rises without performance gain.

Can frontal tape be reused on cloth diapers?

No. Frontal tape is bonded to disposable diaper backsheet with adhesive — once removed, it cannot be reused. Reusable cloth diapers use sewn hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro brand or similar) that are mechanically stitched.

Are wetness indicator stripes worth the cost?

Yes for branded retail diapers. Wetness indicator adds ~₹0.20 per diaper but is now a consumer-expected feature in mid-tier and premium brands. Indicator chemistry is a moisture-sensitive ink that changes from yellow to blue.

What’s the MOQ for finished frontal tape?

Plain (unprinted) frontal tape: 200 kg MOQ. Custom-printed tape: 5,000 kg per design (one-time setup cost amortised over the run).
