Medical Nonwoven Fabric Manufacturer India — SMS, Spunlace & Surgical Grade
Medical nonwoven fabric is a critical safety input for surgical gowns, drapes, face masks, wound dressings, sterilisation wraps, and isolation apparel. As a certified medical nonwoven fabric manufacturer in India, Favourite Fab supplies SMS, SSMMS, spunlace, meltblown, and hydrophilic spunbond fabrics meeting AAMI PB70, ASTM F2100, and EN 13795 standards — direct to OEM medical device companies, hospital procurement teams, and PPE manufacturers across 30+ countries.
Types of Medical Nonwoven Fabric
SMS Nonwoven (Spunbond–Meltblown–Spunbond)
Three-layer composite fabric. Outer spunbond layers provide mechanical strength and abrasion resistance; the inner meltblown layer delivers bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) of 98–99.9%. Available 20–60 GSM. Used in Level 1–2 surgical gowns, disposable drapes, and procedural face masks.
SSMMS Nonwoven
Five-layer composite with two meltblown barriers. Hydrostatic head resistance 50–100+ cmH₂O. BFE ≥99.9%. Meets AAMI PB70 Level 3–4 requirements for high-risk surgical procedures. Available 30–70 GSM.
Spunlace Nonwoven (Medical Grade)
Hydroentangled fabric with cloth-like softness. Used for wound dressings, non-adherent dressings, surgical swabs, patient positioning pads, and sterile drape components. Available in 40–120 GSM viscose/polyester blends with EO sterilisation compatibility.
Meltblown Nonwoven
Ultrafine fibre (1–5 micron) filtration layer. BFE 95–99.9%, PFE 95–99%. Core filtration layer in N95/FFP2 respirators and surgical masks. Available 20–40 GSM standalone or as inner layer in SMS composites.
Hydrophilic Spunbond
PP spunbond with permanent hydrophilic finish. Used in absorbent hygiene-medical crossover products — underpads, bed protection sheets, incontinence liners. Liquid strike-through <3 seconds (EDANA 150.3).
Laminated Nonwoven
PE-film laminated SMS or spunbond. Creates a fluid-impermeable barrier for surgical gown back panels, drape bases, and sterile packaging pouches. Available with anti-static treatment for operating theatre use.

Applications by Product
Surgical Gowns
SMS 30–40 GSM for Level 1–2 non-sterile gowns. SSMMS 45–70 GSM for Level 3–4 sterile surgical gowns. Gown body uses lower-barrier SMS; critical zones (sleeves, chest) use higher-barrier SSMMS seam reinforcement. Our fabrics are supplied to gown manufacturers in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
Surgical & Procedural Face Masks
Three-layer mask construction: outer SMS (20–25 GSM) + meltblown (25–40 GSM, BFE ≥99%) + inner hydrophilic spunbond (18–20 GSM, skin comfort). ASTM F2100 Level 1–3 compliant stacks available pre-laminated or as individual layers.
Surgical Drapes & Sterile Covers
SSMMS 50–70 GSM with PE film reinforcement panels for high-fluid-exposure zones. Used in procedure packs, mayo stand covers, instrument table drapes, and patient draping systems.
Wound Dressings & Non-Adherent Layers
Medical spunlace 40–80 GSM in 100% viscose (high absorbency) or viscose/polyester blends. EO sterilisation compatible. Used as wound contact layers, secondary dressings, and surgical swabs. See our wound dressing spunlace nonwoven fabric guide for full specifications.
Sterilisation Wraps (CSR Wraps)
SMS 45–60 GSM used as sterilisation wrap for surgical instrument sets. Allows steam and EO gas penetration while maintaining sterile barrier post-sterilisation. Replaces woven muslin wraps in modern CSSD setups.
Isolation Gowns & PPE Coveralls
SMS 40–60 GSM used in disposable isolation gowns for general patient care. Full-barrier SSMMS coveralls for infection control and high-risk patient isolation per IS 17383 and WHO PPE guidelines.
Medical Underpads & Bed Protection
Hydrophilic spunbond 20–30 GSM as topsheet; SAP sheet or fluff pulp as absorbent core; PE film or SMS backsheet. Hospital underpads, incontinence pads, maternity pads. See our spunlace nonwoven fabric page for soft topsheet options.
Sterilisation Compatibility
Medical devices and drapes using our nonwoven fabrics have been validated with the following sterilisation methods:

Frequently Asked Questions
Related: SMS vs SSMMS Nonwoven Fabric
What GSM SMS fabric is required for AAMI PB70 Level 3 surgical gowns?
AAMI PB70 Level 3 requires moderate fluid barrier performance. Typically achieved with SSMMS 45–55 GSM or high-performance SMS 50–60 GSM. Critical zone fabric (sleeves, chest panel) must withstand 50 cmH₂O hydrostatic pressure. Contact us for AAMI-compliant fabric samples with test reports.
Can your medical spunlace fabric be EO sterilised?
Yes. Our viscose/polyester spunlace (40–80 GSM) is compatible with EO sterilisation at 54–60°C. Residual EO levels post-aeration comply with ISO 10993-7 limits. Sterilisation compatibility declaration provided on request.
Do you supply meltblown fabric for N95 respirator production?
Yes. We supply meltblown 25–40 GSM with BFE ≥99% and PFE ≥95% for N95/FFP2 respirator middle filtration layers. Available in electret-charged grade for enhanced electrostatic filtration efficiency.
What is the difference between SMS and SSMMS for surgical gowns?
SMS has one meltblown layer providing BFE ≥98% and hydrostatic resistance 20–50 cmH₂O — suitable for AAMI Level 1–2. SSMMS has two meltblown layers achieving BFE ≥99.9% and hydrostatic resistance 70–120 cmH₂O — required for AAMI Level 3–4 high-risk surgical procedures.
Can Favourite Fab supply pre-cut gown panels or only roll goods?
We supply roll goods (jumbo rolls and slit rolls). Panel cutting and gown assembly is done by our converter network partners. We can connect you with converter partners in India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam if needed.
What is the minimum order for medical SMS nonwoven?
MOQ is 500 kg per specification. For medical-grade SSMMS, MOQ is 1,000 kg due to dedicated line setup. Trial orders of 100–200 kg accepted for qualified medical device manufacturers — contact our medical sales team.
